Today is a beautiful, sunny day in Edmonton and there was lots I wanted to blog about this week. However, I’m suffering from sunnyitis so today’s blog will be a random gathering of my thoughts for the day.

  1. Today is a bright, beautiful day so do something to make yourself smile. There are a few times in life when Mother Nature gives you one of those truly happy days. Bright sunshine, warm summer day, birds. What other hints do you need? Take two minutes and do something that truly makes you happy. Go get some ice cream. Swing on a swing. Have a water fight with your significant other (or boss if it won’t get you fired). Just do something fun that makes you laugh. Today is the day for it.
  2. Bosses, let your employees off early. It’s a beautiful day and the world won’t end just because you closed up early. One day won’t mean the loss of that all-important client but it will mean earning some brownie points with your employees who will come back tomorrow refreshed and raring to go. This is even better if you do it on a Friday afternoon.
  3. Parents, play with your kids. My dad worked as a city-wide trucker all his life. His biggest joy was coming home after a long day of work and playing with us kids. Hide n’ Seek, football, tag, whatever. It didn’t matter. He’d go to the park with us and run around or grab a ball and go out into the field. We had kids as young as 4 and as old as 20 joining us for whatever game was going on. This was almost every single night. I can hear a lot of people saying, “but I’m tired. I’ve had a long day!” Trust me, nothing gets you revitalized as much as play does. Why do you think kids have so much damn energy?
  4. Make popsicles. There are a thousand recipes on Google for popsicles of all types. Fun ones, alcoholic ones, ones with soda, ones with yogurt, ones even with cream cheese. Pick a few and make them. Enjoy.
  5. Invite the neighbours for a barbeque. When was the last time you met your neighbours and had a fun evening? Throw some steaks on, grab a beer and get to know each other. Edmonton is known for being friendly. How about extending that friendliness to those who live next door?

Today is a happy, sunshiny day. Just enjoy it. There aren’t many days like this so smile and thank Mother Nature for this gift.
